ELECTION MORNING OPEN HOUSE IN YEREVAN Yerevan - On Wednesday, November 5, U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary H.E. Marie L. Yovanovitch hosted an Election Morning Open House at a local Yerevan hotel to observe the results of the 2008 U.S. Presidential and Congressional Elections. Assembly Country Director Arpi Vartanian joined Armenian and American citizens as well as diplomats and officials, representatives of local NGOs, political parties, the media and others to watch history unfold. With a buzz of excitement in the air, those gathered in the red, white and blue-decorated rooms watched as election results continued to come in, listened to the victory and concession speeches by the candidates, and followed other developments, as reported by CNN. The consistent themes throughout sideline discussions included the historic importance of these elections, the power of democracy and the voice of the people, and that nothing is impossible. Vartanian gave several interviews to local media. U.S. Ambassador Marie L. Yovanovitch and Assembly Country Director Arpi Vartanian Most journalists were interested in what this election means for Armenians, especially in the context of recognition and re-affirmation of the Armenian Genocide by President-Elect Barack Obama and his incoming Administration. |

| | | | | ASSEMBLY MEETS WITH YOUNG JOURNALISTS
Yerevan - On Monday, October 27, Assembly Country Director Arpi Vartanian met with 21 students, aged 10-16, who twice weekly participate in an after-school Young Journalists' Training program. The program is organized by Founder and Implementor, Susanna Margaryan, who is also a former journalist from Azg Daily Newspaper. Through this program, currently sponsored by UNICEF and Azg, students learn about journalism, and develop and prepare a four page Armenian language newspaper, which is included as an insert in the print copy of Azg newspaper.
