ARAMAC GRASSROOTS IN ACTION: STRENGTHENING THE U.S.-ARMENIA RELATIONSHIP

Topeka, KS - In 2003, the State of Kansas and the Republic of Armenia entered into an agreement of mutual exchange and cooperation. From issues of agriculture and nuclear energy to troop exercises and student exchange programs, the relationship between Armenia and Kansas has grown immensely. In October, officials from Armenia traveled to Kansas to take part in a nuclear disaster relief training exercise to better enable the response rate of Armenian officials. An October 2 article from the Associated Press highlights the importance of this now five-year strong relationship.
ARAMAC state Chair for Kansas, Mr. Alex Kotoyantz stated, "It is crucial that we continue to strengthen the U.S.-Armenia relationship through increased cooperation, such as this latest exercise, as well as cultural exchanges like the student exchange program at Kansas State University."
"Alex has illustrated his commitment to strengthening the U.S.-Armenia relationship and his tireless efforts bear more fruit with each passing year," stated Assembly Grassroots Director Taniel Koushakjian.
Strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and Armenia will be one of the top goals of the 2009 National Advocacy Conference and Banquet, March 1-3, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C.

ARAMAC GRASSROOTS IN U.S. MEDIA: "OUR FRIEND AZERBAIJAN?" Washington, DC - On Sunday, November 23, the Washington Times published a Letter to the Editor by ARAMAC Virginia State Chair, Nick Bazarian. Bazarian, a 2005 Assembly intern, wrote the letter in response to a pro-Azeri op-ed from S. Rob Sobhani, a Caspian oil-consultant. Sobhani discussed Azerbaijan's new oil wealth and its significance to Western countries but failed to address Azerbaijan's dismal human rights record, unchallenged presidential elections and boastful warmongering. Bazarian calls attention to these critical issues and cautions U.S. policy makers with interests in the region, stating, "President-elect Barack Obama must remember that while Azerbaijan may have something to offer, it is not the model for a friendly Muslim democracy that Western leaders have declared it to be and, if left unchallenged, Azerbaijan's policies will fatally damage its own citizens, as well as those of another Western ally, Armenia."

The United States, the European Union, and even China and Russia, have poured billions of dollars into financial and industrial institutions in attempts to rescue the global economy.
